‘jockey for position’

some move
and some never seem to budge
all crammed into tiny spaces
if even a space at all
those that move
shift with what passes for care
to the reckless
they jockey for position
rotating in a slow dance
soldiers in a wartime ballroom
they display their wounds
scars from the front
and they are regaled and worshipped
with all their flaws
